5 Steps to Clean and Defrost a Frigidaire Gallery Refrigerator
Frigidaire’s Gallery series of appliances is designed for ease and simplicity, and to make your kitchen hassle-free every day. Gallery Refrigerators offer a wide range of features to make mealtimes easier, and to help keep your food perfectly fresh. But, even a Frigidaire needs a fresh start every now and again. When it comes to cleaning and defrosting your refrigerator, Frigidaire has made that process simple, too. Just follow these 5 steps to get your Frigidaire Gallery Refrigerator sparkling clean both inside and out.
1. Get Rid of What You Don’t Need
Cleaning your refrigerator is a great excuse to get rid of all those old food items. Are you really going to eat that month-old guacamole? Or those squishy tomatoes? Take this chance to empty out all of your shelves and drawers and get rid of anything that may have spoiled or just isn’t getting eaten. It’ll be easier to keep your fridge clean without all those extra items cluttering up everything.
2. Remove Shelves and Drawers
Frigidaire Gallery Refrigerators come with several removable shelves and drawers to make cleaning easy. Simply slide out any smudged shelves and soak them in the sink with warm water and dish soap. Spills and stains should scrub off easily with a gentle brush or a sponge.
3. Defrost
Most Frigidaire Refrigerators include Adaptive Defrost Control — meaning your fridge can automatically trigger a defrost cycle based on how many times the doors have been opened. Most Frigidaires will activate a defrost cycle once or twice a day. They only last about 30 minutes, and all the excess water drips directly into a drain pan, leaving no mess or cleanup for you to deal with.
If you want to defrost your fridge between automatic cycles, the exact method will depend on the model you have, but many models allow you to activate a cycle by pressing the up and down (warmer and colder) arrow keys at the same time for about 5 seconds.
4. Clean the Inside
Any surfaces inside the fridge that can’t be easily removed can be wiped out with a damp cloth. Be sure to flip down all your Gallery Refrigerator’s adjustable shelves and make sure every surface is clean. If you’re having problems with unpleasant odors in your refrigerator, try wiping down with a bit of baking soda, or leaving a bowl of baking soda in the fridge overnight.
5. Clean the Outside
Frigidaire’s Gallery Collection features several models with a smudge-proof stainless-steel finish. A smudge-proof finish will make cleaning the outside of your Frigidaire simple — all you’ll need to restore its natural shine is white vinegar and some oil. Clean off any caked-on grime, spray the outside of the fridge with vinegar, then wipe down with paper towels.
Be sure to follow the grain of the metal to avoid streaking. Buff using a soft cloth and a dab of olive oil, or another oil of your choice. If your model does not have a stainless-steel finish, baking soda and water -- or a mild surface cleaner -- should do the trick.
